Last Full Day of Camp

MIA

Today was our last full day of camp. We started the day with breakfast and then we headed to the fields to play Hawaii. Washington and Hawaii are very friendly to each other off the field, so it was interesting to see how we would do against them. Washington started the game strong, scoring two goals in the first half, both made by Mariah. We came out in the second half very tough and scored two more goals. These were made by Rachel and Abby. We ended the game with a 4-0 win. In the afternoon, we had a training session called functional training. In this session we split up, and trained with all the girls that play our position. It was very helpful but extremely hot outside. After dinner, everyone was eager to go to the talent show! Washington went second, following a rousing chorus of “Happy birthday”, sung by Cal-South. Although it was a tough act to follow, Washington did great. In my opinion, we should have won. It was fun to watch the other acts. They ranged from singing “Mont-ifornia Girls”, to dancing around the stage with glow sticks and techno music. Very entertaining. The winner was Hawaii with a great hula dance. We ended our last night at camp by staying up late and celebrating, (quietly, of course) and spending every last second we could with our friends before we left them the next day.

Day 3

MIA

Assited by Emma, Kylie and Shaniah

Today, we had an early start… Waking up early isn’t our cup of tea. After breakfast we played Cal-North at 8 o-clock. The game started slow, coinciding with the whole teams mentality. We weren’t quick enough stepping to the ball. After the first half we were down 1-0, our coach instilled the mentality “we ARE going to win the game” into us. Right away in the second half, Washington became down 2-0. After Cal-North scored their second goal, Washington picked it up, scoring
two goals in the last 15 minutes, both made by Alissa!  The first goal was an assist from Mariah. After beating half the Cal-North defense, Mariah made a perfect pass to Alissa on the left side. Alissa
was very composed and made a flawless finish into the back of the net. The second goal was off of keeper Emily’s punt. The ball bounced over the heads of the Cal-North defense with Alissa making a breakaway run and chipping it over the keeper’s head, nearly injuring herself in the
process.
We had lunch and had fun watching the Spain vs. Germany game. After lunch we had a training session on possession with the Idaho ODP team. Tonight’s invite game consisted of 5 Washington players. Congratulations to Abby, Emily, Shaniah, Mariah, and Mia for representing Washington extremely well. Tomorrow night Washington has been invited to play in the invite game. Go Washington!

ICE BATHES!

MIA

Today was a very relaxing day for Washington. Since we were invited to play in the invite game at night, we did not have a game in the morning. Instead, we had a training session that was focused on defending as a team in a 3-5-2 formation. After training, we had some down time and then we practiced for our talent show tomorrow night. We enjoyed a superb lunch of teriyaki chicken thanks to the Soo family!

In the afternoon, we had the pleasure of taking ice bathes in a garbage can. Everyone enjoyed them, and we were fresh and ready for our game. Although Washington played well against the invitees, we lost 3-0. We played well in the first half, and improved our possesion in the second half, but it was tough to keep up with the other team’s fresh legs.  Tomorrow we play Hawaii at 9:30. Go Washington!

Go Washington!

MIA and ABBY
Today was our first full day at camp. We were fortunate enough to get the opportunity to play Cal-South in our first game. Washington played very well and held Cal-South to a 0-0 tie. The heat and intensity of the game brought our energy level down , causing a tough start to our week. After lunch we had a special training called iSoccer. ISoccer is a program to test and challenge your personal skills and ability. Everyone really enjoyed the training session. It helped us realize our weaknesses, strengths, and areas to improve on. After training, we headed to the auditorium to hear a guest speaker who taught us about mental toughness. He talked about different levels of confidence and how to control it. He was very inspiring and taught us how  we can use our mental training. Every night this week there will be an invite game that certain players who are recognized each day are invited to play in. Tonight Washington was fortunate enough to have nine players invited to the games. Congratulations to Abby, Jess, Kylie, Shaniah, Emma, Cali, Brooke, Mariah, and Mia. We represented Washington very well! Tomorrow we will be playing Cal-North… it will be another tough game! We are ready for the challenge and we will play our hearts out!

Day 1

Today we arrived at the University of Idaho for our week of hard work, training, and learning. We received an abundance of information from our administrators, state coaches, and regional coaches. We began our week by moving into our new, spacious dorm rooms. We then headed off to dinner to feast upon pasta. Lots of PASTA. From there we traveled to the auditorium for our orientation. Platini Soaf showed us an inspirational video of 7 USA national team players, three of which came through the same Region IV program that we are fortunate to be a part of.  The Regional coaches talked to us about what it takes to be at the next level. We then met with our regional coach, Zack Masters, and enjoyed some bonding time with the Idaho ODP team. We are looking forward to our week ahead with excitement, determination, and nerves. Go Washington!
